It's been a while since the folks at Disney introduced a new princess. The last one was in 1998 when a beautiful Chinese princess called Mulan stole our hearts. Be ready to fall in love again - this time with Tiana, a gorgeous 19-year old African American princess coming to theatres in 2009.
Tiana will be starring in a new Disney movie called 'The Frog and the Princess', set in New Orleans in the 1920's.
Not much of the story has been revealed yet but like most princess movies it will be a tale of love and enchantment. There will be plenty of good Jazz music thanks to award winning music director Randy Newman, who composed the music for A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc. and Cars. The movie is being made by the writer/director combination of John Musker and Ron Clements, who were responsible for The Little Mermaid and Aladdin.
Also, unlike most recent animated movies, The Princess and the Frog will be made the old-fashioned way in 2-D, with each scene hand drawn.
While Tiana will not be in theatres until Christmas of 2009, we have a feeling you will soon see beautiful Tiana dolls popping up at the Disney Store alongside the classic princesses, Snow White and Cinderella.
