The Picturecraft gallery in Holt, Norfolk is facing an unusual problem - they have no paintings left to display. That's because their latest exhibit, featuring 16 watercolors by seven-year old artist Kieron Williamson, was so popular, that it sold out in . . . . . . . . .14 minutes!
In fact, the paintings, which fetched an amazing $34,000USD were sold so rapidly that even Kieron's mum missed the showing because she got to the gallery 15 minutes after it opened. Not only that, the speed at which they were sold, earned the seven-year old a permanent place in the record books as the 'youngest successful painter'.
This is not Kieron's first taste of success either. Earlier this summer, the genius painter who is being compared to Picasso, sold 19 masterpieces earning a cool $26,000USD.
What's even more astonishing, is that the youngster, who can paint with watercolors, pastels or oils, had never even lifted a paint brush until last year.
Kieron first got inspired to paint whilst on a family vacation in the picturesque towns of Devon and Cornwall . According to his parents, he asked for a pencil, sketched the scene and then simply started to paint. Noticing his raw talent, a family artist friend gave him some guidance, and the rest as they say is . . . . . history!
Experts who have seen the young boy's creations, marvel at his ability to capture the light, color and tone of the scenery he paints, and say that his work shows a maturity level way beyond his young age.
And, he seems to do it all fairly effortlessly - According to his parents, it takes him just about one hour to complete a watercolor. Oil paintings take the longest time, only because they require additional drying time.
Kieron, who says painting and soccer are his two most favorite hobbies, is planning to spend some of his earnings on a set of new pastels and splurge on a painting by his favorite artist, Edward Seago, who was also known for his landscapes. The rest will be invested by his parents and handed over to him, when he turns 25.
As for his next exhibit - It will happen as soon as the young genius can whip out some new masterpieces, which we have a feeling, will not take too long!
