British Disc Jockey, Ruth Flowers better known as DJ Mamy Rock has been rocking the European club scene for the last five years. Now, the 69-year old grandmother is spreading her musical magic to the USA.
Ms. Flowers, whose unique mix of electro rock music seems to resonate strongly with her young audience, played to a packed crowd of 3,000 eager fans at an electro festival in Anaheim, California, last weekend. The gig proved to be so popular that the DJ has been invited to perform in New York City on November 29th, before she heads off the spread her magic to China and Japan.
Ms. Flowers who seems to possess more energy than the 20-year olds she entertains, stumbled into her new career quite accidently. After spending a quiet retired life in Portugal for over the decade, the widowed grandmother was starting to get a little bored and wondering what to do next.
In 2005, while attending her grandson's birthday party, she went along with him and his friends to a discotheque. She enjoyed it so much that she thought it would be fun to try it herself. The idea quickly became a reality when she was introduced to producer Aurelien Simon, who launched her into the Parisian scene as The DJ Mamy (French for grandmother) - Sure enough, she became an instant hit, performing in venues ranging from the Cannes Film Festival to some of city's best nightclubs.
And in case you are wondering, the rocking grandmother has no plans of slowing down. In fact, she is delving even deeper into the music scene with a new single entitled 69 - which she recorded last week, whilst in California - Watch out Taylor Swift!
