Though July 4th, the day our incredible country was 'born' is always celebrated with great abandon at the White House, this year's celebration is even more special. That's because in addition to the nation's 238th birthday, today also happens to be first daughter Malia Obama's, sweet sixteen.
Of course, sharing a birthday with the nation means that the gorgeous first daughter will have to postpone her celebrations by at least a day. That's because tonight, she will be joining her family in hosting the annual July 4th party for administration officials and military heroes and their families.
Started by Thomas Jefferson in 1801, the age-old tradition is a way to honor all the people that put their lives on the line for our country. The celebrations that start early afternoon include some fun games on the White House South Lawn, a delicious barbeque, live entertainment and of course, spectacular fireworks. In addition to the Marine Marching Band, this year the guests will also be treated to a concert from American rapper, Pitbull.
While Malia has to take second seat to the nation's birthday, we are sure the President and First Lady have an extra special celebration planned to make up for it. Though those plans are shrouded in secrecy, the one thing that everyone does know, is what the young girl plans to do after the big day - obtain her driver's permit.
If history repeats itself, in anticipation of the important milestone, Malia may even receive a car or two from her well-wishers. At least that's what former President Bill Clinton's daughter Chelsea was gifted when she turned sixteen at the White House on February 27th, 1996. Unfortunately, her parents gracefully declined all three! We have a feeling that Malia's parents will do the same.
As to who will teach her how to drive? First Lady Michelle Obama has asserted it will not be either her or the President! But then Chelsea was taught by her dad so President Obama may opt to do the same! Either way, we have a feeling that it will not be too long before Malia is zooming down the streets of Washington D.C. in her . . . convertible Porsche?
Happy July 4th to all of you and a very happy sweet 16 to our gorgeous First daughter Malia!
