You will be attempting to decipher the mysteries hidden in each chapter. The House of Dies Drear contains numerous characters with important roles and strong personalities. The Small family moved to North Carolina. Their father Mr.Small, purchased the old and eerie house of Dies drear. Thomas, the son of Mr.Small begins his first days at his new house by being pushed forcefully by Max Darrow into an underground tunnel made for the slaves to escape. Down in the dark tunnel he felt as if he wasn't alone. After some time down there he began to hear oo-ing sounds. This terrified him. He then end up being pulled into his kitchen by his mom. She opens up a secret passage leading from there kitchen to the tunnel. What an introduction to a new house. The House of Dies Drear is an amazing story. However the most alarming part is when Thomas is stuck in the tunnel hearing oo-ing sounds. That ends up being the Darrow Boys. The story lacked frightening events and these events could have made the book better. The novel is also very slow at certain points. It does contain interesting facts about the slaves and the tunnels. However they may not interest you. The story is fantastic, I highly recommend it.
